JNBY Children’s Clothing Scandal
Global fashion brand JNBY is facing backlash over sexually explicit, racist, and violent imagery and phrasing in their children’s clothing line.
We generally attempt to remain unpolitical, but this is urgent. Please remember to boycott Chinese fashion label JNBY and its affiliated brands (JNBY; CROQUIS (速寫), POMME DE TERRE(蓬馬) and JNBYHOME). They have stores globally and it’s time for the public to make their voices heard with ethical consumerism.
Because the incident has started in China, much of western mainstream media is not covering the scandal. However, it’s important that global consumers take a stand.
The company’s shares fell 13% this week in China over an emerging scandal regarding their line of children’s clothing and marketing practices. In addition to utilizing sexually suggestive and highly questionable images of children in their advertisements, the company has been hit with a backlash of complaints about the prints in their children’s clothing.
The clothes portray such graphic images as phrases as:
“Let Me Touch You”
“The Whole Place is Full of Indians. I Will Take This Gun and Blow Them to Pieces”
“I Just Need a Foot”
“Welcome to Hell”
In addition to the violent and sexually explicit phrasing, many of the graphics depict horrific violence and assault, not to mention sexual imagery such as a bird and two red berries position at the crotch of a naked woman and other scenes of nudity.
This is beyond unacceptable and the artists, marketing department, sales staff, and all others involved should be investigated.
